The PEACES Collective's 2023

Community for Action Fundraiser Event

  You Are Invited!

Join us for an unforgettable evening at The PEACES Collective's annual fundraiser, the Community for Action Reception, on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. at Claret Hall, 6020 Daybreak Cir, Clarksville, MD, 21029.

About the Event
The Community for Action Reception is the cornerstone of our fundraising efforts for the "SpREAD the Word" literacy initiative. This initiative enables us to create meaningful change by promoting literacy and education within our community.

Last year, at our inaugural event, we had a fantastic time and raised funds to establish 150 home libraries for Head Start children and families in Baltimore City and Howard County, MD. This year, our goal is to provide 350 families with home libraries for the 2024-2025 school year.

About SpREAD the Word

SpREAD the Word aims to promote reading, learning, and positive social growth through culturally and developmentally appropriate literacy programming for children and their caregivers. Disturbingly, the National Assessment of Educational
Progress (NAEP) report that only 33% of 4th graders, 31% of 8th graders and 37% of 12th graders in public schools can read at or above proficient standards. For Black students that percentage drops to approximately 16%.

Our SpREAD the Word initiative encourages reading by creating a cadre of volunteers who engage young learners in reading and writing activities. The initiative offers a series of integrated literacy "fests" focused on the 4Cs of literacy – Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity.
